Our goal is to provide emergency communications to Nebraska communities, state and federal authorities or support organizations during weather events, situations or disasters.
Nebraska ARES volunteers are able to connect with authorities and communities when standard communication such as phones, or internet are not available.
NE ARES: What We Do
-
Storm Spotting
Storm Spotters are volunteers who donate their time to protect you from dangerous weather by placing themselves in strategic locations to watch for and report dangerous weather to local emergency management teams. Certified Storm Spotters in Nebraska are also licensed amateur radio operators. Learn more about becoming an amateur radio operator or becoming a storm spotter.

Damage Assessment
Did you know that after a damaging weather event that our volunteers are the first into a disaster area? NE ARES is often setting up tents and offering aid to Nebraskans days before FEMA even arrives on scene. That’s because we are local volunteers who want to help our neighbors and community. Consider supporting us by becoming a volunteer or donating to our organization.

Education
Part of NEARES is to educate and help volunteers prepare to handle disasters. We offer training coordination in the areas of basic storm spotting, finding an amateur radio operator’s class near you, or access to other FEMA and ARRL developed courses. The best preparation for a disaster is knowledge and planning. Please consider supporting your local volunteers.
