After a tornado or damaging storm, NEARES is on scene to relay critical information on the extent of damage back to the National Weather Service and Emergency Management Agencies. Types of things a trained volunteer would report back to local authorities include:
- Extent and size of tree, vehicle, or house damage.
- If roads are accessible.
- Rail road car damage.
- Bridge damage.
- Evidence of flood damage and height of flood waters.
- Electrical services, dangerous lines, downed wires.
These are all useful information to help authorities understand and rate the size of tornado and the extent of help and assistance that will need to be deployed. Volunteers in the community like NEARES is there to get their neighbors the help they desperately need.
